- In 1990, the Child Advocacy Advisory Board (CAAB) of McHenry County is formed to develop a protocol for a cooperative and comprehensive approach in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse.
- Along with protocol development, the CAAB begins planning for the establishment of a Child Advocacy Center to fulfill the design of the protocol.
- In 1999, the Child Advocacy Center of McHenry County, Inc. (CAC) is established as an independent 501(c)(3) agency and a site for the center is located in Woodstock, IL. The CAC begins serving clients in December of 1999.
- The mission of the center is to reduce the secondary trauma to victims of child abuse and coordinate a timely and comprehensive approach in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse.
- In 2004, the CAC receives full accreditation from the National Children's Alliance.
- The CAC was reaccredited by NCA in 2009.
- Currently, the CAC has 3 full time employees, one part time employee and has expanded to it current 2200 square foot facility located in Woodstock, IL. The CAC receives an average of approximately 200 to 220 referrals for child abuse annually.
